The President is the Head of the Indian Union, which also includes the states. Hence, along with the MPs, the MLAs also vote in the Presidential election. Whereas the President is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the members of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies, the Vice-President of India is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the members of both the Houses of Parliament.
