The word ‘slog’ can be used as a noun and a verb.
Slog (verb):
Work hard over a period of time.
They were slogging away the whole weekend to complete the project.
Walk or move with difficulty or effort.
The poor boy slogged through the tunnel in the heat.
Hit someone especially in boxing or cricket.
The boxer got into position to slog a punch at his opponent.
To compete or fight fiercely.
The team will be slogging it out in the quarterfinals next week.
Slog (noun):
A phase of difficult, tiring work or travelling.

A forceful hit especially in cricket.
A slog hit the fielder on the face.
