Expert Answer
Mean free path is the average distance travelled by a particle between successive collisions. Water has highest density at 4 °C. Its density at 0 °C is less that that at 4 °C. Hence, due to less density the chance of a collison is less. So, the average distance between collsion, i.e. mean free path increases. Hence, at 0 °C mean free path is greater than λ. Therefore, the change in mean free path is positive.
