The earth shows a magnetic field at points on or near its surface and behaves as if a huge bar magnet were located inside it along nearly north south direction. This magnetic field due to earth is earth's field. This field has components in horizontal and vertical directions.

Now, resultant field in earth's magnetism could mean net field in any particular direction due to the interaction of earth's magnetic field and magnetic field due to some other magnet.
