Lumbering in Canada is usually carried out during winter due to the following reasons:

  1. The sap from the trees stops flowing making it easier to cut.
  2. The felled logs could be easily collected on the frozen grounds and taken to the river banks. (they are transported later, when the ice melts)
  3. Since it becomes very difficult to cultivate during the winter season, many farmers take up lumbering as an alternative work.
