Lumbering in Canada is usually carried out during winter due to the following reasons:
- The sap from the trees stops flowing making it easier to cut.
- The felled logs could be easily collected on the frozen grounds and taken to the river banks. (they are transported later, when the ice melts)
- Since it becomes very difficult to cultivate during the winter season, many farmers take up lumbering as an alternative work.
