Liquids have low density as compared to solids. Because Denisty is mass per unit volume. So for a fixed ammount of volume, mass is lesser in liquid as compared to solids. Because in solidss molecules are closer to easch other and in a particular volume there are more number of molecules so it will have more mass pe unit volume and more density as compared to liquid.
 
But In case of Ice and Water - Water has more density as compared to ice. because of Hydrogen bonds.
