Let X be the x-coordinate of centre of mass of the triangular plate.

when a mass of 4m is placed at vertex P,  x-coordinate of centre of mass of ( plate + mass 4m) = begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator open parentheses 4 m close parentheses X space plus space open parentheses 4 m close parentheses begin display style a over 2 end style over denominator 8 m end fraction end style
when a mass of m is placed at vertex R,  x-coordinate of centre of mass of ( plate + mass m) = begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator open parentheses 4 m close parentheses X space plus space open parentheses m close parentheses begin display style a end style over denominator 5 m end fraction end style
since x-coordinate is same, begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator open parentheses 4 m close parentheses X space plus space open parentheses 4 m close parentheses begin display style a over 2 end style over denominator 8 m end fraction space equals space fraction numerator open parentheses 4 m close parentheses X space plus space open parentheses m close parentheses a over denominator 5 m end fraction end style....................(1)
Solving the above eqn.(1) for X, we get X = a/6
