Expert Answer
A small, central inactive mass of cells located in the apical meristem of the root is called quiescent centre. Since it is present in root apex, this centre is present in both dicot as well as monocot plants. Most cell divisions occur along the edges of the quiescent centre and give rise to columns of cells arranged parallel to the root axis.
