The period between the mid 1700's and mid 1800's was one of great technological advancement. Invention of machines intensified the Industrial production leading to Industrial Revolution.

Some important machines were:

  • Flying shuttle or weaving made easy
  • The Spinning Jenny increased wool mills productivity. t was developed by James Hargreaves.
  • The Watt Steam Engine led to incredible improvements in almost all industries, including the textile industry, across the world.
  • Eli Whitney vented the cotton engine

In factories, machines helped in producing and manufacturing goods on a large scale. People living in the rural areas shifted to towns in search of employment. Mass production enabled the capitalists to amass huge wealth and gave rise to capitalism.  

However, women who were engaged in spinning lost their livelihood as weaving became highly mechanised. Skilled labourers also lost jobs as machines replaced them.
