Car-x moves with uniform speed 1 m/s.
Car-y has acceleration a, which is given by ,  a = dv/dt = tan45 = 1 m/s2
 
Let after t seconds car-y catch car-x. Let car-x has moved a distance S m in t seconds.
 
for car-y :-    S+4 = (1/2)×a×t2 .....................(1)
for car-x :-        S/t = 1 .......................(2)
 
By eliminating S from eqn.(1) and (2) and with substitution a = 1 m/s2 , we get    t2 = 2t+8   or t = 4 s
 
Hence after 4 seconds, car-y will catch car-x
