CBSE Class 11-science Answered

In, the proof /derivation of exess pressure inside air bubble in a liquid
Fp2=Ft+Fp1
Fp2.......> The force due to the pressure from inside the bubble.
Fp1........>The force due to the pressure from out side the bubble.
Ft..........>Force of tension .
'Ft' will be balanced by the other other hemisphere of that bubble . But why it is taken to be balanced by 'Fp2' &
prove /derive Ft=2piRT.

Due to Surface Tension, the air bubble in a liquid has a tendency to contract.
This is because the pressure inside the bubble is more than that outside it.

Now, the air bubble boundary has a surface tension force that acts tangentially to the surface.

Yes it is true that the force of tension Ft is balanced by the same of the other hemisphere.

However, there are three forces acting on one hemisphere. So, the cumulative effect is considered.

Hence, we have

F2 = Ft + F1

Now, the surface tension acts on the entire surface of the hemispherical shell (shown in red in the diagram below).

Its surface area is 2π R
Hence, the force of surface tension is

Ft = T (2π R)
