In the given Venn diagram,

 

U = {pupils in a School}

A = {those who have a brother}

B = {those who have a sister}

Write down the number of those who :

(i) have a brother (ii) have a sister (iii) have neither brother or sister

(iv) total number of pupils in the school

From the Venn Diagram, we can see that,

(a) A = {those who have a brother}

Hence, Number of those who have a brother = n (A) = 180 + 710 = 890

(b) B = {those who have a sister}

Hence, Number of those who have a sister = n (B) = 710 + 70 = 780

(c) Number of those who have neither brother nor sister = 240

(d) Total number of pupils = 180 + 710 + 70 + 240 = 1200
