in female millions of follicles are formed during embryonic stage, but most of them degenerate till puberty. so why the body forms so many follicles if it does not need it?

Follicular atresia is a normal process in the ovary to regulate the number of follicles in the developing pool.
Follicular atresia and luteal regression are essential mechanisms required for the elimination of unnecessary and aged structures, as well as for normal ovarian function.
That is why, in female millions of follicles are formed during embryonic stage, so that the aged, bad quality follicles degenerate over time and good quality ones are retained in the reproductive age.
