In an Electric Motor, what will happen if only one circular ring is used instead of two semi circular split rings?Explain.
- Electric Motor is a device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
- This conversion is due to generation of the motion acquired due to the resultant interaction between the magnetic field of a very strong permanent magnet and the magnetic field due to a current carrying coil.
- The split ring, also known as a commutator reverses the direction of current flowing through the coil after every half rotation of the coil. Due to this the coil continues to rotate in the same direction.
- If only one circular ring is used instead of two semicircular split rings, the current through the coil will stop flowing and hence it will cease to act as a motor.
