In a zener diode why there is a increase in voltage drop across Rs without any change in voltage across zener diode?

Left side figure shows the zener diode characterstics. In reversed bias region after some minimum current,
voltage across reverse biased zener diode is constant. But we should limit the current to Izmax to prevent physical damage.
Right side figure shows the voltage regulation applied to a device load using zener diode.
If V1 is the input voltage, Voltage across resistor is given by, VR = V1 - V2
when input voltage V1 increases, since V2 is constant, voltage across resistor VR increases
