Answer:
Tips to identify the clauses in a sentence:

main clause

·         contains both subject and verb

·         forms a complete sentence

Example:

Madhuri read the book last evening.

subordinate clause

·         contains both subject and verb

·         begins with a subordinate conjunction (e.g. after, although, as, because, before, even if, even though, if, since, so that, than, though, unless, until, when, whenever, where, whereas, wherever, whether, while, why) or a relative pronoun (e.g. that, which, who, whom, whose)

·         does not form a complete sentence

·         requires a main clause when describing a complete thought

Examples:

'After grandmother drank her hot cup of tea' is the subordinate clause in the sentence 'After grandmother drank her hot cup of tea, she told her curious grandson about how India had won its independence.'

'although he lost his brave commander' is the subordinate clause in the sentence 'The great king won the battle although he lost his brave commander.'

coordinate clause

·         contains both subject and verb

·         has a coordinate conjunction (e.g. and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet)

·         does not form a complete sentence

·         requires a main clause when describing a complete thought

Example:

'and it started to rain' is the coordinate clause in the sentence 'The cricket match started, and it started to rain.'
