Expert Answer
Centripetal force, a force acting along the radial direction of circular/curved path, is essential for circular motion or motion along the curved path.
This force gives uniform acceleration towards centre, if the object is moving with uniform speed in tangential direction.
This centripetal force makes the object to move in a circular/curved path. If this force is not there, the object will move in linear path
along the tangential direction.
Planets move around sun , satellites move around planets in circular/elliptical path.
In this case centripetal force is gravitational attractive force.
A stone tied at one end of string is rotated in circular motion. Tension in the string acts as centripetal force.
when vehicles moving in a curved path, frictional forces between ground and wheel of vehicle provides the required centripetal force.
Hence if force is continuously acting on the object when it is moving in a circular/curved path,
then the object is subjected to acceleration throught its motion
