if there are no heat losses, the heat released by the condensation of x gm  of steam at 100°C into water at 100°C can be used  to convert y gm of ice at 0°C  into water at 100°C then the ratio y:x is ?

Answer:
Heat loss by x gm of steam = x×2260 J
Heat gain by y gm of ice to become water at 100 C =  y×334 + y×4.2×100

2260 × x  = 754 × y;

3 ×x = y

hence y:x = 3:1
