If you will look carefully at the 2 points, A and B, they have the same y coordinate i.e. 1. So, both the points lie on the line y = 1 and hence, now since its a straight line parallel to axis, the distance would only be the difference in the x coordinates. 
 
Since, the distance is 2 and the x coordinate of A is 1, then the x coordinate of B = 2+1 = 3. hence x = 3.
