  • The President of India has certain important powers like he can dissolve the Lok Sabha if he feels that no party has got the required majority.
  • No bill can become an Act unless it is signed by the President. However, he has to sign it if the bill comes back to him for the second time. But while doing so the President by sending the bill back, may induce the cabinet minister to improve the bill.
  • After the general elections, the President invites the leader of the majority party to form the government at the centre. This power of the President becomes significant when single party gets a majority in the Lok Sabha.
Apart from above powers, the President have other significant powers too. He is an impartial person and does not adhere to party lines after he becomes a President. He has to act in the capacity of the head of the state. Thus, we need the President as the head of the state.
