If is mercury a poor conductor of heat then, why is it used in thermometers?

Expert Answer
Because mercury has low thermal capacity, high heat conductivity, inertness in relation to a glass capillary tube and a high boiling point, it is an ideal thermometric liquid except for its relatively high melting point.
Also, it has high coefficent of expansion, hence slightest change in temparature is notable.
