Identical packets are dropped from two aeroplane-one above the equator and other above the north pole , both at heights 'h' . Assuming all conditions to be identical, will those packets take the same time to reach the surface of the earth? Justify your answer .

Time taken by tha paket to reach ground when it is dropped from a height h above earth's surface = begin mathsize 12px style square root of fraction numerator 2 h over denominator g end fraction end root end style...........................(1)
At equator acceleration due to gravity = 9.78, at poles acceleration due to gravity = 9.835.
This difference is due to the flatness of earh's shape near pole.
Hence earth's surface at pole is near to earth's core compare to equator. Hence acceleration due to gravity is more.

Since from eqn.(1), time is inversely proportional to √g, at pole the dropped packet takes less time to reach earth's surface.
