ICSE Class 10 Answered
The DC motor is a machine that transforms electric energy into mechanical energy in form of rotation. Its movement is produced by the physical behavior of electromagnetism. DC motors have inductors inside, which produce the magnetic field used to generate movement.
Mechanism:
When a current carrying conductor is placed in an external magnetic field, it experiences a force. This is the basic working principle of a DC motor.
The commonly used DC motor consists of a permanent magnet stator and wound armature rotor.
Power supply is given to the motor by split ring commutator.
When the current flows through the armature, the armature produces a magnetic field around it.
This field will be opposing the field generated by the permanent magnet.
Therefore, the armature coil along with the shaft of the motor, rotates.
