JEE Class main Answered

i just want to know why a ball falls on earth when left from a height becuse the gravitional forces of both of them is equal and opposite hence the ball must tend to be at rest in the air .I have already consulted few lecturers but their answer were complicated and tough to understand so i want to get a simpler answer so that i acn understand it in a proper way

Gravitational force between ball and earth is attractive force . Earth attracts the ball towards it.
Earth is also attracted towrads the Ball. Magnitude of each attractive force is same and it is given as

| F | = G ( M × m ) / d2

where G is universal gravitation constant, M is mass of earth,   m is mass of ball
and d is the distance between centre of earth and centre of ball.

Acceleration experienced by ball = force / mass = ( G M ) / d2

Acceleration experienced by earth = force / mass = ( G m ) / d2

Acceleration of ball is directly proportional to mass of earth.

Acceleration of earth is directly proportional to mass of ball .

Mass of ball may be around few hundred grams , i.e. 0.1 kg , where as mass of earth is around 6 × 1024 kg

Hence we see that acceleration experienced by ball is 1025 times greater than the acceleration experienced by ball .

Hence ball moves much faster towards earth than movement of earth towards ball .
