Initial kinetic energy = (1/2)mv2 = (1/2)×1×22 = 2 J
initial x-direction momentum = mv = 1×2 = 2 kg m/s ; initial y-diection momentum = 0
case I :- Kinetic energy = 2×(1/2)×1×(√2)2 = 2 J ;
x-direction momentum = 2×1×1 = 2 kg m/s ; y-direction momentum = 1×1 - 1×1 = 0 ;
case II :- Kinetic energy = (1/2)×1×22 = 2 J ;
x-direction momentum = 2×1 = 2 kg m/s ; y-direction momentum = 0 ;
case III :- Kinetic energy = 2×(1/2)×1×(√2)2 = 2 J ;
x-direction momentum = 1×1 = 1 kg m/s ; y-direction momentum = 1×√2 = √2 kg m/s ;
Kinetic energy is conserved in all cases. Momentum is conserved only in cae-I and case-II
