CBSE - X - Chemistry - Metals and Non Metals
Hydrogen is a non metal yet it is placed in the reactivity series. Why?
hydrogen behaves like both alkali metals(e.g. Na and K) as it shows the behavior like these metals by losing an electron forming H+ easily which reacts with non metals like Cl forming HCl and with other halogens forming acids. On the other hand H also has the ability to gain one electron to form H-(Hydride ion) like that of non metals like Cl and reacts with other metals like Na or K forming NaH. So Hydrogen is put in the reactivity series of metals.
