AC Generator:
It is a device which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. When the current produced by the dynamo alternates i.e., changes its direction regularly after a fixed interval of time, the dynamo is called an alternator or AC Generator or AC dynamo.
It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction i.e., whenever magnetic flus linked with a coil changes, an induced emf is set-up in the coil. The induced emf lasts only so long as the magnetic flux continues to change. The direction of the corresponding induced current is given by Fleming's righ hand rule.
It consists essentially of the following parts:
i) Field magnet
ii) Armature
iii) Slip rings
iv) Brushes
Hence, the key points should be:
1) Define the AC generator
2) Write the principle behind its working
3) Write its basic parts, and
4) Give its diagrammatic representation.
