how will we prove that the equation for weight in moon is 1/6

Expert Answer
The acceleration due to gravity is given by,
g = GM/R2
Where, M is the mass of the planet or satellite
R is its radius.
For Moon,
Mm = 7.36 × 1022 kg
Rm = 1.74 × 106 m
So, gm = GMm/Rm2
For earth,
Me = 5.98 × 1024 kg
Re = 6.37 × 106 m
So, ge = GMe/Re 2
Now,
gm/ge = (Mm Re2) / ( Me Rm2)
Substituting the values, we get,
gm/ge = 0.16 = 1/6
=> gm = ge/6
Thus, gm = 1/6.
Hence we prove that the equation for weight in moon (gm) is 1/6 .
