How viscosity & friction arise from inter molicular forces? How the viscosity of oil helps in applying brakes?

Viscosity is depends on the strnght of the intermolecular forces present within the fluid. It can be interpreted as a measure of the internal friction in a fluid.
When fluid to moves and past each other, Due to force of cohesion betweeen molecues, a fast moving layer will tend to increase the velocity of the adjacent slow moving layer and vice versa. Such a motion causes internal friction between the molecules and it is the origin of intermolecular force.
The viscous fluids are less compressible. Hence, they are used in braking system of vehicles.When brake is applied, it drives a piston which is placed on a viscous fluid. The fluid carries this force to a larger piston which amplifies the force aenabling the vehicles to stop.
