how to take square route of a number

Consider the number 2050.2784
 
Let us find the square root of the above number by long division method.
 
1. Break the number into pairs. So the number is 20,50.27,84
 
2. Determine the greatest square root number from the left most pair. Here, greatest square root number in 20 is 4( 4 x 4 = 16).
 
3. Write 4 in the top most and in the left margin.
 
4. Write the exact value of the square of the number and subtract it from the original left most pair. So write 16 under 20 and subtract to get 4.
 
5. Append the remainder with the new pair. Here the remainder is 4 and the new pair is 50.
 
6. The previous square root is added to itself in the left margin. Here the previous square root is 4 and hence now the number is 8.
 
7. Now append a digit in the number in the left margin and write the same digit in the top so that the multiplication of these two should not be greater than the number in the division process. Here, if 5 is appended near 8, then 5 should be written on the top so that 5 x 85 should not be greater than 450.
 
8. Write the exact multiplication of the appended square root number and the number in the top. Thus, 5 x 85 = 425.
 
9. Subtract 425 from 450 to get 25.
 
10. Do this process continuously till you get an accurate number.
