Hi,
Images which cannot be obtained no screen and can be seen only by looking into a mirror or lens are called virtual images.
Images which can be obtained on screen are called real images.
Magnification for mirrors is given as m = - (v / u).
For mirrors, v is negative for real and positive for virtual images. Hence, m will be negative for real and positive for virtual.Magnification for lenses is given as m = -(v / u).
For lenses, v is positive for real and negative for virtual images. Hence, m will be negative for real and positive for virtual. So, we can conclude that m is negative for real images and positive for virtual images.
If the image is formed on the same side up as the object than the image is erect image and if it is formed on the wrong side with the arrow -head at its bottom than it is inverted.
