how to find out whether a solution  is basic , acid or neutral

Dear Shriya,

Acid -Base indicators are used to decide whether the solution is acidic, or basic or neutral.

For example:

Litmus paper test.

Blue litmus paper when dipped in acidic solution changes into red.

Red litmus paper when dipped in basic solution changes into blue.

No effect on blue or red litmus paper in neutral solution.
