Expert Answer
Blood sugar level is controlled by two hormones secreted by pancreas:
1. Insulin is responsible to decrease the blood sugar level. When there is rise in blood sugar level, insulin promotes the uptake of glucose by the body cells. It also stimulates conversion of extra glucose into glycogen in the liver. This brings the glucose level back to normal.
2. Glucagon is responsible to raise the blood sugar level. When the blood sugar level goes below normal, glucagon stimulates the breakdown of glycogen in the liver to glucose, thus help to retain the normal blood glucose level.
