Expert Answer
Minamata disease is caused when large quantities of fishes and shell fishes infected with methyl mercury are consumed. Methyl mercury is discharged as waste water by factories.
The disease mainly attacks the brain and central nervous system. It may also cause unsteadiness in legs, reduced vision, loss of hearing and unclear speech.
