answered-by-expert Expert Answer

Structure of air sac or alveoli for the purpose of exchange of gases:

(1) There is a network of blood capillaries surrounding the wall of each alveolus.
(2) The walls of the alveoli are extremely thin (single-celled thick) and moist, thus enabling gaseous diffusion.
(3) Oxygen from the air first dissolves in a thin layer of water fluid that covers the surface of the alveoli.
