How does the short-circuit happen?

Answer:

A short circuit is simply a low resistance connection between the two conductors supplying electrical power to any circuit. It happens mainly due to improper wiring or insulation damage. Electricity has the tendency to flow through the path which offers low resistance. So, if a short circuit occurs, it causes excessive current to flow through the wiring which can damage home appliances or worst set a fire.

Example: Short happens when a component such as a fuse, resistor, capacitor, etc. fails and acts like a regular wire and the voltage across that component becomes 0V or abnormally low voltage and the current (amperes) becomes abnormally high.
