Answer:

In the poem A Psalm of Life, the poet wishes to inspire his readers to live a fruitful life, a life that isn’t merely counted in the number of years that one lives, but a life that is busy, constructive, energetic, happy and content.

The poet attempts to fulfil this objective by ornamenting his poem with words that are full of encouragement and optimism. He expects us to live like great men who by their deeds have left their ‘footprints on the sands of time’. He warns us to stop worrying about the future or hold on to the past. Instead, he urges us to ‘act in the living present’. In the battle of life, the poet commands us to fight like ‘a hero in the strife’. Finally, he wishes to see us ready for ‘any fate’ and wants us to continually achieve and pursue, and wait patiently for the fruits of our labour.
