how does speed differ from average speed?

Speed: Speed is the rate of motion, or equivalently the rate of change in position, expressed as distance d travelled per unit of time t.
Average Speed: Average speed of the body as the ratio of total distance travelled during the motion to the total time taken. In case of uniform motion, average speed is equal to uniform speed.
