CBSE Class 9 Answered
How does simple distillation differ from fractional distillation?
Asked by Topperlearning User | 08 May, 2014, 07:21: AM
Expert Answer
Simple distillation is used for the separation of components of mixture containing two miscible liquids that boil without decomposition and have sufficient difference in their boiling points whereas, fractional distillation is used to separate a mixture of two or more miscible liquids for which the difference in boiling points is less than 30oC.
A complete separation of two miscible liquids cannot be done by simple distillation but it can be done by fractional distillation.
