Expert Answer
When oxygen reaches the alveoli, oxygen is absorbed by the blood and it combines with hemoglobin to form oxyhaemoglobin. Oxygen is used for oxidation of food to release energy along with water and carbon dioxide. Blood absorbs this carbon dioxide and is transported into the lungs, where it is exhaled.
