Saadat Khan lay the foundation of the kingdom of Awadh in the following manner:

  • In 1721, the zamindars of Awadh revolted against the Mughal Empire and refused to pay taxes.
  • This opportunity was utilised by Burhan-ul-Mulk Saadat Khan who was the appointed as the governor of Awadh by the Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah.
  • Taking advantage of the weakening of the Mughal Empire, Saadat Khan gradually took control over Awadh and reduced the Mughal influence in the state. 
  • He appointed his own loyal people on important positions and finally laid the foundation of his rule in Awadh.
