How can we justify that 1857 Revolt was not a sudden occurrence ?

Answer:

After conquering Bengal in 1757, the British aimed at expanding their rule in India. They occupied Jhansi, Satara, Awadh and many other Indian kingdoms. They introduced their own system of administration and revenue settlements in these states which became burdernsome for the peasants at large. The states of many Indian kings were annexed which gradually led to the revolt of 1857.
