How are tsunamis generated?
- A Tsunami is a giant sea wave which is caused mainly due to earthquakes occurring under the sea. Tsunamis may be as high as 15m high.
- When an earthquake or a volcanic activity takes place, a large amount of water may get displaced. The displaced water forms waves. These waves when they approach the shallow waters in coastal areas become high and crash onto the shore. Tsunamis cause widespread destruction to lives and property.
