Expert Answer
Antihistamines are drugs that block the action of histamine at the H1 and H2 receptors sites. These drugs also counteract the effect of histidine by inhibiting the action enzymatic activity of histidine decarboxylase. They are responsible for immediate hypersensitivity reactions such as sneezing and itching. Antihistamines thus counteract the effect of the natural chemical histamine.
For example:
Ranitidine and Cimetidine are examples of antihistamines.
