Expert Answer
A biodiversity hotspot is a biogeographic region that is both a significant reservoir of biodiversity and is threatened with destruction. It is an area which is extremely rich in species diversity, has high endemism and is under constant threat. Such areas are the regions of accelerated or increased loss of habitat. For example, Western ghats and Eastern Himalayas.
