A square wave is defined as, F(t) = 1 ,  when 0 ≤ t ≤ T/2  and F(x) = -1 when  (T/2) < t ≤ T

When we analyse square wave by fourier series

we get F(x) = (4/π) { (1/1)sin[ (πt/T) ] + (1/3)sin[ (3πt/T) ] + (1/5)sin[ (5πt/T) ]+(1/7)sin[ (7πt/T) ]+..........  }

Hence a square wave of period T consists of fundamental sin[ (πt/T) ] and its infinite number of odd harmonics.

But the n-th odd harmonics has a factor (1/n) . In practical , though the square wave is made up of infinite number of odd harmonics,

after some finite number , its contribution is reduced by a factor (1/n) , hence higher the harmonic lesser the contribution
