Hi,

Correct equation for the reaction is:

FeS + O2 → Fe2O3 + SO2

In this reaction:

Sulphur (S) gets oxidised from “-2” charge to “+4” charge.

Iron (Fe) gets oxidised from “+2” charge to “+3” charge.

Oxygen gets reduced from “0” charge to “- 2” charge.

This reaction can be balanced in simpler manner (balancing each atom on either sides of the equation).

4FeS + 7O2 → 2Fe2O3 + 4SO2
