Three characteristics of the thorn forests and scrubs are:
- The thorn forests are found in the regions which receive less than 70 cm of rainfall. These forests are found in the semi-arid areas of Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
- The trees of the thorny bushes have long roots which penetrate deep into the soil in search of water.
- Their leaves are thick and small to minimise evaporation. Some varieties of trees are Acacias, palms and cacti.
Thorn forests are found in Rajasthan and in extremely dry parts of Punjab and Gujarat.
