The following are three characteristics of the thorn forests and scrubs:

1. The thorn forests are found in the regions which receive less than 70 cm of rainfall. These forests are found in the semi arid areas of Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

2. The trees of the thorny bushes have long roots which penetrate deep into the soil in search of water.

3. Leaves are thick and small to minimise evaporation. Some varieties of trees are Acacia, palms and cacti.
