Test for conc. H2SO4 are as follows:

  • Action of heat on copper and conc. H2SO4 produces sulphur dioxide.

  • Sulphur dioxide gas turns acidified potassium dichromate solution green.

  • Action of heat on sodium chloride and conc. H2SO4 produces hydrogen chloride.

  • The HCl gas gives dense white fumes of ammonium chloride with a glass rod dipped in ammonium hydroxide.
